 Golden Jubilee education fair          

The National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI) is participating in a three-day Education fair being organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with I-Texon Ghana. It a Golden Jubilee fair and has as its theme “ Increasing the informed human Resource base for championing African excellence”.

The main objective of the fair is - to promote study opportunities in Ghana and sourcing for educational funding in Ghana. 

Those participating will be the Universities, Polytechnics, Teacher training collages, Book publishers, Banks and Companies with Educational funding policies, Accommodation Providers, scholarship awarding institutions etc. 

Date: 21- 23 February, 2008.

Venue: Accra International Conference centre.

 MATRICULATION CEREMONY

This year’s matriculation ceremony was held on Friday, 26th October, 2007. In all there were twenty-nine (29) matriculants. The event was Chaired by Mr. Fosuaba A.M Banahene, the Administrator of the GETFUND.

Workshop on writing and composing for film 

A Workshop on Writing and Composing Music for Film has been held in Accra. It has always been the concern of the National film and television Institute (NAFTI) that music on Ghanaian Films is not Ghanaian in origin and those that have Ghanaian Music are not of very high quality. 

 The ten-day workshop commenced on Tuesday, 16th October and closed on Friday, 26th October 2007. The venue was the NAFTI FILM THEATRE, NAFTI Hostel, Cantonments, Accra and was organized by NAFTI and the French Embassy, Accra. 

Resource Person

It was difficult getting a resource person to come down for this workshop. However, this year, the French Embassy, Accra managed to get YVES de BUJADOUX an experienced Film Music Composer to come to Ghana for the workshop.  

YVES de BUJADOUX worked with Actor and Director Gerard Jugnot for several years. He signed the music of “Casque Bleu” and “Sans peur et sans reproche”. He has worked on many TV commercials. He wrote the music of seven (7) films directed by Denis Amar and has worked with directors such as Peter Kassovitz, Pierre Lary and Eric Civanyan. He has composed scores for cartoons aired on “Canal +”, “Rai Uno” and “TF1”.

He has also produced scores for more than thirty (30) film and television productions .

WORKSHOPS 

1.     Art Direction

Workshop Supervisor  - Ms. Ramatu M. Dadzie, Tutor, NAFTI

The model and casting workshop started on the 27th  of August through to the 7th of September, 2007. The essence of the workshop was to introduce to students the processes of modelling and casting using materials such as     plaster of Paris, clay, Plastercine, fibre glass and silicon/rubber mould. For students to acquire this basic knowledge, it invariably becomes a prerequisite, for the:

Art Direction students the ability to understand the processes of modelling, molding to a final piece and creating art décor for presentations as props on sets and as an applied design methods in different design principles.

For Animation students, as a prerequisite for stop motion or 3D model animation which is part of the course NAFT 381 Techniques of Animation. With this knowledge, students will be expected to model, build armatures and cast their characters. During normal lecture periods for stop motion animation class, students will move further to complete building their characters and the shoot at the trick camera room.

2.     Photography

The Photography workshops are run during the semester break in July  and January. Institutions and corporate bodies who would want short  or refresher courses for their employees may also apply, but the   number of  participants should be at least ten (10). The next workshop is expected to run from the second week of  January, 2008. The duration of the course will be two weeks. The Department is currently running a beginner’s course in lighting and camera handling.  

 The fee for the last workshop was 3 million cedis, equivalent to 300 dollars. That includes one coffee break, lunch and handouts. A  certificate of participation will be awarded to each participant. 

3.     Sound

A workshop on Film Sound Dubbing is currently in progress. It started on Monday 1st October, 2007 and is due to end on Friday, 12th October, 2007.Participants include Actors and Film Directors. The resource person is Lionel Henry, a seasoned Actor/Director from France.

ANIWA 2007 CLOSES 

Aniwa 2007 ended on Friday July 20th 2007. In all four countries, Ghana, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and South Africa participated in this year’s festival. Productions that were entered into the competition were 32 in all.
