We are delighted to welcome you to the National Film and Television Institute, the premier school of film and Television training in Africa. NAFTI has the numbers that foster an ideal teacher-student ratio. We are situated in a learner friendly environment at East Cantonments in Accra with a student s’ hostel within walking distance from the main campus. We offer three main programmes.
Our four-year BFA Programme is offered in affiliation with the University of Ghana in seven areas of specialization in film and television production i.e. film directing, television production, motion picture photography, film sound production, editing, art direction, animation. This is the regular programme mainly for senior high school graduates with career interests in the creative industry.
We introduce for the 2011/2012 academic year, the three –semester Professional Post Graduate Diploma offered in nine areas of specialization- producing, screenwriting, cinematography, digital video production, digital imaging and still photography, documentary, broadcast journalism, performance and. This programme is structured to cater for graduates with a Bachelor’s degree or professional diplomates who are interested in career options in the creative industry.
The NAFTI short course is the standard seven-day programme in various areas of specialisation which caters for practitioners in the film and television industry and any interested persons or the customized programme which is run on request by groups or organizations.
These programmes are designed to transform potential talents into versatile and highly perceptive media professionals who can function competitively on both local and international media platforms.
Our training is dedicated to creating a balance in both scholarly and professional disciplines that will develop in students the confidence to engage in intellectual discourse while working to international industry standards in their professional disciplines. We have a committed faculty and film professionals who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with our students.
NAFTI students also have the benefit of annual and biennial regional and international film festivals such as Mini Imput, Real Life, Aniwa which provide meaningful interactions with film professionals and also unique learning experiences.
Studying at NAFTI is now a unique intercultural experience. The Institute is currently on three Exchange Programmes – NSSE (ARCADA, AFDA, UJ, WITTS, NAFTI) for students and faculty, ISIS (Burkina Faso)-NAFTI, and the student Exchange Programme between University of Koln in Germany and NAFTI. NAFTI is also a full member of CILECT (the International Association of film and television schools) .
