BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (BFA) IN FILM DIRECTING The Directing Department offers a
four-year degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA)
degree. In
the first year the students do general courses in filmmaking where they are
exposed to all the areas of the filmmaking process. The curriculum also requires
that students have general understanding of specific subjects through the
Liberal Studies programme. Students are required in the first year to produce
storyboards utilizing simple narratives. Second
year students work in teams to produce substantial short projects including a
five-minute non-dialogue film. They have the opportunity to work with actors in
a collaborative environment. The curriculum also requires participation in
workshops which examine diverse techniques and working strategies in the various
disciplines. Students
begin their specialization in the third year. The directing students are
required to team up with those in other disciplines to create short narratives
for various exercises in dialogue, directing styles, and camera blocking. They
are also given the opportunity to produce a music playback and a one-minute
commercial. As part of their BFA obligation directing students are to produce a
10 minute project in this year. The fourth
year directing students go through various seminars and master classes. They
collaborate with other students in the various disciplines to produce their
final year 30-minute projects guided by experienced faculty. Directors also as
part of their thesis portfolio write a long essay.
